Please note that while field herping is a recreational hobby, there
are safety factors which must be considered to prevent injury or
loss of life. Considerations such as allergies to plants, present
life forms (spiders, leeches, alligators, mosquitoes, snakes, etc)
and well as the potential for nature dangers: water being deeper
than appears, weeds at the bottom of ponds and lakes which can tie
up feet/legs and make swimming difficult, rock/mud slides, holes
underwater or on land, etc. There is also the human complication.
There are some pretty whacked out people out there, folks, so when
hitting some of these secluded spots, you never know what kinda
human freak might be lurking out there. There are a lot of
potential hazards while field herping and it's always best to field
herp with a buddy, especially if you are hitting some new,
unfamiliar areas.
