Tennessee Aquarium at Chattanooga
Separate from the main Delta Rivers Swamp tanks is this large palludarium-style stand-alone tank which you can walk completely around. In the near end is a sizeable water feature, separated from a large land section by the wall (straddled here by a stump). Again we see cypress knees (or replicas). In this tank I've seen a number of map turtle species (including Barbour's, Black-knobbed, Mississippi & Northern), Mississippi Mud, Razorback Musk and even a small (probably spiny) softshell. Otherwise, I've seen grey rat snakes (white oak color phase), a timber rattlesnake, an eastern diamondback rattlesnake, 2 box turtles (at least one a male Eastern), and plenty of live plants. Note: We don't recommend keeping venomous snakes in your turtle enclosures! In fact, mixing any other kind of reptile, or any amphibian, with turtles in private hobbyist enclosures is usually not recommended. Photo: Richard Lunsford.
